Frostrosen

Pattern: Frostrosen from Nordic Fiber Arts
Yarn: Finullgarn
Needles: Size 0 dpns

I finally finished my Frostrosen mittens and I love them! I ended up making a size smaller than the smallest size in the pattern, and they fit perfectly. This was my first fair isle project ever, and it was so satisfying to see as I was working that I could do this and that it was turning out better than I had ever imagined!

Above is my mom modeling the mittens. I gave them to my Grandma for Christmas and she said they fit her just right too. I might have to make a pair for myself!

Moving Time!

Today is my last day with the internet for a few days so I won't be posting any updates for a little while. I thought I would have my second mitten finished this week, which was sort of ridiculous considering I have finals and am moving. Naturally it's been snowing all week in anticipation of me moving across northern Minnesota, so wish me luck getting home!

One Down (Mostly), One To Go

I finished my first mitten today except the thumb, since it's my habit to do both thumbs at the same time. You can see in the picture on the left the toothpicks I knit this with. My gauge ended up a stitch per inch more than the smallest size in the pattern, but they fit me perfectly and I think will be a better fit for my Grandma as well.
This was definitely a learning process, and it took a while to get comfortable knitting with such tiny needles and I'm still not completely used to it. Overall I'm happy with how it turned out. It's slow going, but my favorite part of this fair isle business is holding your work back and taking a look after several rows and realizing how lovely the pattern is turning out. I've got the last mitten to knit and I'll be done with my Christmas knitting! I feel bad saying this, but I really don't like knitting for other people, it's so uncertain. Will it fit? Will they like it? And I can't wait to start knitting for myself again. Unless there are requests I don't think I'll be doing much knitting next Christmas!

Check It Out

If anyone out there is interested in photography or abstract drawing, you should definitely check out Andy's deviantART space. At the moment he mostly has photos he's taken up, but will be uploading more of his artwork soon.

Here is a photo he took of an Easter Cactus I propagated:

His drawings are at least as impressive as his photography, and will be up soon. So, if you have a minute, go check it out!
